GET TO KNOW: Shaina Mote.
In an effort to curb the mentality of fashion, Shaina Mote aims to create sleek, transformable staples. By giving new options to the wearer, such as: a new way to tie, a reversible quality, etc., the goal is to increase the ways to wear the pieces over time and encourages less waste on the whole. When possible, Shaina Mote works with locally sourced or dead-stock goods and materials. The design aesthetic is modern yet the materials themselves are classic and natural.
WHO IS THE SHAINA MOTE GIRL?
The Shaina Mote girl is strong, intellectual, thoughtful and independent. Regardless of the her vocation, she thinks for herself and forges her own path.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU FOR YOUR FALL '15 COLLECTION?
I was in Kyoto when I designed the Fall Winter 2015 season. I was thinking about the process of how things are created and the people behind the scenes. There is a nod to a more utilitarian aesthetic with multi-functional, apron inspired styles and the introduction of the canvas weave. The Fall Winter 2015 collection was the first season that I worked with the idea of angled cutting as a means to create "clean" pieces from the inside out. Regardless of the season, I always aspire to create multi functional and efficient design. The neutral palette was inspired by the works of Agnes Martin.
My closet is (not surprisingly) a blur of black, white and neutral tones. I can usually be found in monochrome. I wear my own clothes a lot! On casual studio days, my uniform is vintage levis, MNZ mules, a crisp poplin top and my new Clyde straw hat.
