Calder was founded by Amanda Blake in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles. Blake is influenced by nature, art and the kindness embodied in the balance of hard work and time for family. Her vision is to create beautiful, simple things – made to last. Many of the silhouettes are reproduced season after season in new fabrications and colors, "so that a person may return time and again to find their favorite piece."
